Earthed is an independent, weekly podcast and newsletter.
We provide quick updates for people who care about climate, nature, and sustainability in Australia – updates to help you stay across what's happening.
Sign up for the free newsletter and it will land in your inbox every Monday. Follow the podcast and it will drop into your feed every Tuesday.
Our goal is to make it easy for you to keep up with what's going on - and to help with your own efforts to create a better future.
What's the Earthed story, and who are the people of Earthed?
Sustainability communications advisor Murray Griffin and digital and design director Chris Dansie developed the concept of Earthed.
We had a very clear goal - to develop a news service that is useful for anyone with an interest in climate, nature, and sustainability - whether or not they work in the ESG field.
We wanted both an online newsletter and a podcast, because they each appeal to different audiences, and because they allow news to be communicated in very different ways (our podcast definitely isn't just our newsletter read out loud).
We wanted the newsletter and podcast to be short, so people get a quick overview of how much is being done, and how much more we need to do. And we wanted Earthed to have an eye-catching, unique look!
There are other key people who make Earthed possible.
Dr Franziska Curran is a sustainability consultant and is the co-host of the Earthed and Track Changes podcasts.
Sophie Sideris is a digital and brand specialist who has advised a range of environmental and social justice organisations.
And a big shout-out to Geoff Scott, who assists with research.
What's not part of the Earthed story?
Earthed isn't trying to be all things to all people.
We aren't pretending to do investigative or in-depth journalism (we admire and have deep respect for journalists who specialise in investigative and in-depth news).
And we aren't trying to sway people who don't accept that we face a climate crisis, a nature crisis, and a pollution crisis (again, kudos to those who do try reach out to everybody).
Instead, we want to encourage and inform the many people who are already concerned about climate change, nature destruction, pollution and waste, and who want to know what's being done in Australia to tackle these huge challenges.
Also, Earthed isn't interested in presenting AI slop.
We use some AI tools under the hood. But we don't use generative AI to curate, write, script, or present our content.
The physical world is increasingly becoming a tough place for humans. And so is the digital world.
That's not a good thing. We think humans should prepare newsletter and podcast content that is intended for humans. So that's how we work.
Who funds Earthed?
We developed and launched the Earthed newsletter and podcast in our spare time and using our own resources.
Each new issue of the newsletter will always be freely available to everybody, and so will all podcast episodes.
However, if you'd like to help us grow and reach more people, consider becoming a paying member, which gives you full site access, including access to topic-specific news, and previous newsletter issues.
Or you can help out on a one-off basis via our tip jar.
If you're a company or organisation with aligned values, contact us to find out how our sponsorship packages could benefit you.
How do I become a paying supporter?
Thanks for considering supporting Earthed – it helps us keep going!
We offer two paying supporter options, starting at $9 per month, both giving you full access to our jurisdiction-themed and topic-themed news, as well as access to all back issues of the newsletter.
And the paying supporter options allow you to comment, and to share with other readers updates about what you or your organisation is doing to create a greener, cleaner, better world.
Do you offer group subscriptions?
